The route
Ojców National Park, Pieskowa Skała, Błędów Desert & Ogrodzieniec.
The route follows the classic Ojców–Pieskowa Skała–Ogrodzieniec day, with around 1–1.5 hours to enjoy Ojców National Park on foot and a short stop at the Błędów Desert. Before Ogrodzieniec, we also leave time for lunch — often at a local restaurant serving traditional Polish food near the castle, or somewhere else along the route if you prefer. The day then builds toward Ogrodzieniec — the most substantial castle visit on the route — where you have time to walk through the ruins rather than simply photograph them from outside. Exact order can change with traffic, weather, seasonal opening times and your preferred pace.
Ojców National Park
Spend around 1–1.5 hours exploring the park on foot, following the Prądnik Valley through limestone scenery and forest and passing the famous Brama Krakowska (Krakowska Gate). The route can be arranged as a one-way walk, so there is no need to retrace the same section.
Ojców Castle area
Continue through the village and castle area with time for the surroundings, photos and an optional visit depending on your interests and the day’s timing.
Chapel on the Water & Hercules’ Club
Continue through the Prądnik Valley with a quick photo stop at the Chapel on the Water, then see Maczuga Herkulesa — the tall limestone formation standing below Pieskowa Skała Castle.
Pieskowa Skała Castle
From 1 May to 31 October, plan time for the castle’s visitor routes and Renaissance architecture. Outside the main season the private tour still operates, with an exterior stop, Hercules’ Club and the surrounding Ojców scenery instead of the full interior visit.
Błędów Desert
On the way to or from Ogrodzieniec, stop for roughly 15 minutes at the Błędów Desert viewpoint — an unexpectedly wide sandy landscape known as the “Polish Sahara”.
Lunch break
Before visiting Ogrodzieniec Castle, there is time for lunch. A good option is a local restaurant near the castle serving traditional Polish food, but the stop is flexible — we can choose another place along the route depending on your preferences, appetite and timing.
Ogrodzieniec Castle
This is the biggest castle stop of the day and one of the most impressive strongholds on the Eagle Nests Trail. The ruins rise among limestone rocks on Góra Janowskiego, the highest point of the Kraków–Częstochowa Jura at about 515.5 metres above sea level. A stone castle was established here in the time of King Casimir the Great and later transformed by the Boner family into a grand Renaissance residence.
You explore independently at your own pace, following the courtyards, stone passages, stairways and viewpoints inside the ruins. From the upper parts of the castle there are wide views over the Jura and the surrounding limestone landscape, so this is usually where we leave the most sightseeing time.
Return to Krakow
After the castle, relax in your private vehicle for the journey back to Krakow and door-to-door drop-off.

- The private Eagle Nests Trail tour operates throughout the year, weather and road conditions permitting.
- Pieskowa Skała’s main visitor season runs from 1 May to 31 October. Outside that period the itinerary focuses on the exterior, Hercules’ Club and the other year-round stops.
- Ogrodzieniec Castle is open to visitors year-round, although opening hours can be shorter outside the main season.
- The Ojców walk is not technically difficult, but comfortable walking shoes are strongly recommended; surfaces can be wet or uneven.
- In poor weather the walking section can be shortened or adapted to suit the conditions.
Extend the day or finish somewhere else

Add Częstochowa for a longer sightseeing day, or use the Eagle Nests route as part of your onward journey and finish at Katowice Airport or in Warsaw / at Warsaw Airport instead of returning to Krakow.
